El Karama Ranch and its Location
El Karama Ranch, situated on the Laikipia Plateau between Mount Kenya and the Great Rift Valley, is a family owned and run ranch. At an altitude of 5700 feet the climate is pleasant, and the scenery: rolling savannah and bushland, rocky ranges of hills and meandering rivers is pristine and beautiful.
This small patch of Africa is animated by a great diversity of wildlife: nearly 400 species of birds and over 70 species of mammals and by many fascinating people who make it their life, work and home.
The ranch raises quality Sahiwal cattle to sell as breeding stock; the Maasai people being among the most regular customers. El Karama employs up to 70 Kenyans from various tribes, all of whom contribute to the functioning and special character of the place.
